Recently, we welcomed Horizon Platforms to our Sheffield HQ for a dedicated MEWP Rescue Training Day.

Delivered by Horizon Lead Training Instructor, Adrian Waddington, the training session focused on MEWP rescue procedures and emergency response awareness. The training took place just a couple of weeks ahead of No Falls Week, a national initiative focused on raising awareness around safe working at height, making the session particularly timely and relevant for our colleagues.
Combining Classroom Learning with Practical Training
A number of Street Cranexpress engineers took part in the training alongside our SHEQ Manager with classroom tutorials taking place in one of our meeting rooms, while the hands-on practical exercises were held in our workshop facilities.

During the practical elements of the day, colleagues worked through rescue scenarios involving a MEWP, giving the team valuable experience in how to respond effectively and safely during an emergency situation.
The objective of the training was simple, to improve safety awareness and preparedness when operating and working around MEWPs.
Supporting Safe Working at Height
Horizon Platforms are one of the UK’s leading powered access specialists, providing nationwide hire, training and support services for working at height safely. Their expertise in MEWP operation and rescue procedures makes them a trusted partner for businesses looking to strengthen safety standards and compliance.
The training day demonstrated the shared values between Horizon Platforms and Street Cranexpress, particularly around safety, responsibility, and continuous improvement.
Speaking after the session, Horizon Platforms trainer Adrian said:
“It was a pleasure to deliver our MEWP Rescue Training at Street Cranexpress. The team was great and the kind feedback from them was very much appreciated. Rescue training is something I urge all MEWP users and managers of MEWP users to do regularly.
“We’ve done several of these sessions across the country and each time people are reminded of what can go wrong, but also how they would feel if they didn’t know what to do in an emergency. We do sessions in support initiatives like No Falls Week, but mainly to make sure our customers have as much information as possible to work at height safely and act in an emergency.”
Our SHEQ Manager, Shannon West, also praised the session, “I really enjoyed the Horizon MEWP rescue training and found it both insightful and easy to follow. The mix of practical exercise and classroom learning worked really well and helped me feel much more confident in understanding the rescue procedures and safe working practices involved”.
Investing in Skills, Safety and Development
Training events like this form a vital part of ensuring Street Cranexpress Engineers are equipped with the knowledge, confidence and practical skills needed to work safely.
By continuing to invest in specialist training opportunities such as MEWP Rescue Awareness, we’re reinforcing our commitment to colleague development, safety leadership and creating a strong culture of responsibility across the team.
The safety of our team remains our top priority, and sessions like this help to ensure our engineers are prepared not only to work safely, but also to respond effectively should an emergency situation arise.
