Josh Clegg Promoted to Engineering Director (Designate)

The SCE Group of companies (comprising of Street Cranexpress and bxh Electrical Wholesalers) is proud to announce the promotion of Josh Clegg from Engineering Manager to Engineering Director (Designate).

Early career and a move to Street Cranexpress

Josh started his career in the lifting industry as an apprentice, spending over a decade developing hands-on experience as an overhead crane engineer. Those years spent “on the tools” laid a strong technical foundation before he stepped into management, bringing with him a practical understanding that continues to shape his leadership style today.

He joined Street Cranexpress in March 2018 as UK Service Manager, taking responsibility of overseeing the engineering team while supporting wider business operations. Over time, his role evolved, but his core focus remains unchanged, leading the engineering function while maintaining close relationships with customers and colleagues across all departments. That balance of operational leadership and customer engagement is something Josh values deeply and intends to carry forward in his new role.

Importance of Company Culture

“What really appealed to me was that Street Cranexpress is a British family-owned business. I picked up on that family feeling even during the interview process. It wasn’t lost on me that as an SME it’d likely mean me having to do things that weren’t necessarily in my job description. I knew that would mean no two days would be the same and I’d be taken out of my comfort zone from time to time. That’s something I see as a challenge and an opportunity to learn new things.”

Since joining, Josh has played a key role in the expansion of the engineering team, which has grown by 40% over the past eight years.

I strongly believe we have some of the best crane engineers in the UK and our reputation is continuing to grow as an employer.”

He takes particular pride in the company’s apprenticeship programme too, which continues to attract increasing interest:

“Apprentices often start their journey with little confidence and limited skills. To then see these young people learning a skill for life and maturing gives me a great sense of satisfaction knowing we provided that opportunity for them to do so.”

His promotion to Engineering Director (Designate) marks a significant step, both professionally and personally.

“It means a lot that the Directors saw enough in me to provide me with this promotion. I see that as an acknowledgement of my efforts since joining the business.

One thing remains; I’ll never ask anyone to do something I wouldn’t do myself. I can’t wait to see what the next 30 years has in store for me here at Street Cranexpress but I’m confident this business will keep going from strength to strength while looking after its employees.”

This promotion reflects not only Josh’s achievements to date but also the company’s commitment to developing talent from within.

Josh, a huge congratulations to you from the entire team on your accomplishment!
