The SCE Group of companies, including Street Cranexpress and bxh Electrical Wholesalers, is delighted to announce that Ray Fletcher has been appointed to the newly created role of Deputy Chairman.
Having played a pivotal role in shaping the business into one of the UK’s leading overhead crane service providers, Ray’s new position will see him focus on supporting the group’s long-term strategic direction as the organisation enters its next phase of growth.
Ray’s journey with the family-run business began in 1991 in a technical/product sales role. Since then, he has progressed through a variety of roles including project sales, sales manager, company director, and most recently, managing director, developing a deep understanding of the business and the industry.
Over the years, Ray has helped steer Street Cranexpress through significant growth and transformation. Among his proudest achievements is seeing the company establish itself as a major force within the industry:
“It has been a privilege to for me to see Street Cranexpress expand over the years and establish itself as an industry leader within the Overhead Crane service sector in the UK.
The continued success of our Apprentice Training Academy with the ongoing support from our engineers features high on my list of our collective achievements.”
The success of the Apprentice Training Academy remains a testament to the company’s commitment to developing future talent and ensuring the industry continues to benefit from highly skilled engineers.
Facing up to challenges
Like many businesses operating in specialist engineering sectors, Street Cranexpress has faced challenges along the way.
Ray reflected on one of the biggest obstacles throughout his career:
“Our potential for growth over the years has been affected hugely by a shortfall in skilled labour. A problem that still lingers today and continues to affect businesses across the UK within many different sectors.”
Despite these challenges, the company has continued to invest in people, training and development, helping to build a strong foundation for future growth.
Looking to the future
As Ray steps into his new role as Deputy Chairman, his focus will shift increasingly towards supporting the strategic development of the wider SCE Group:
“I have the pleasure of working with a first-class team of people across all areas of the business, and I count myself fortunate that they share my vision of success. That hunger persists even more so today, and I am very much looking forward to this next chapter where we can unlock the full potential of the SCE Group.”
The move reflects the continued evolution of the business and the opportunities ahead as the group expands its profile and capabilities.
Speaking about what he’s looking forward to most about the future, Ray commented:
“As our Group profile expands, our strategic direction must be at the highest level to safeguard future success. It is an exciting prospect for me to help lead the SCE Group into the next phase of expansion.”
Advice for the next generation

Having built a career that spans more than 35 years in the lifting industry, Ray remains passionate about encouraging the next generation to pursue opportunities within the sector:
“We work within a niche sector and there will always be significant career opportunities.
Have a vision, work hard and be the best you can.
Anyone can aspire to reach the highest levels irrespective of where you start but remember that there are no shortcuts!”
When asked why he joined the company in the first place, he offered “(SCE Group is) a family-run business that I thought would match my future ambitions and values. Looking back now, I made the right choice!”
Ray’s commitment to the business remains as strong as ever. As deputy chairman, he will continue to provide invaluable guidance, leadership and strategic insight, helping ensure the SCE Group remains in a strong position for the future.
A huge congratulations on this achievement, Ray – from all of us at the SCE Group.
