07th May 2019

Street CraneXpress electrical engineering apprentice Josh McKennan is a finalist in the AMRC Apprentice of the Year awards, which celebrate the achievements of apprentices and their employers, and the contribution they make to industry.

Josh was in the running for the Maintenance Apprentice of the Year Award thanks to his dedication and hard work in both his day-to-day duties servicing and maintaining overheads cranes with Street CraneXpress, as well as in his pursuit of an HNC in electrical engineering at the AMRC Training Centre.

There are currently nine SCX apprentices learning their trade in a partnership between the SCX Academy in Tyler Street and the University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, which brings together world-leading research and innovation in advanced manufacturing.

The SCX Academy helps to ensure a steady supply of fully qualified crane maintenance engineers for the SCX group’s Street CraneXpress division.

As part of the SCX Academy’s four-year programme, Josh has spent time working in the other businesses within the SCX group. During his time with SCX Special Projects, Josh had the opportunity to get involved in the high-profile project to install the world-first dividing, retractable grass pitch at Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium.

Josh attended the AMRC Apprentice of the Year Awards at the University of Sheffield’s Firth Hall on 1st March 2019, where he received an AMRC Maintenance Apprentice of the Year Award finalist's certificate.

“Josh’s work alongside fully qualified engineers, his commitment, attention to detail and his keenness to learn fully justify him being a finalist in the AMRC Training Centre Apprentice of the Year Awards,” said Street CraneXpress director Ray Fletcher.

We would like to extend a huge congratulations to Josh, whose achievement reflects not only his dedication and commitment, but also the success of the SCX Academy.
